The US-KOREA Conference on Science, Technology and Entrepreneurship (UKC) 2018 was held August 1-4, 2018 at St. John’s University Conference Center in Queens, New York City, New York, United States.

UKC 2018 provides valuable opportunities for cooperation between the United States and Korea. With a rich history of over twenty years, the UKC program includes symposiums, forums and workshops that cover broad areas of science and technology, including but not limited to basic science, applied science, engineering, technology, entrepreneurship and science policy.

In this conference, entitled “Leading Discoveries in the Era of the 4th Industrial Revolution” hundreds of research papers were published. In particular, many research papers were published in the field of health care directly related to our lives.

In the ‘Computer Science and Information Technology’ session, discussions on the future of healthcare, such as block chaining and 3D printer technology, were followed.

Medical IP, which is known as a venture company of Seoul National University Hospital, has developed a technology that allows patients to easily understand their status by presenting images in 3D volume based on the image. This 3D image can be used to create a real-size organ using a 3D printer.

On the same day that the UKC was opened, Medical IP, a medical imaging software development and medical 3D printing company has been mentioned in the category of “3D Printed Presurgery Anatomical Models” as “Hype Cycle for 3D Printing” and “Hype Cycle for Healthcare Providers” by Gartner, an IT research firm from USA.

CEO of Medical IP, Dr. Park, Sang Joon said “Our technology is being used in hospitals in more than 30 countries. By creating patient-specific 3D printed organs, doctors can more accurately identify preoperative lesions and can help maximize surgical outcomes.”
