Medical IP, a medical imaging software development and medical 3D printing company has been mentioned in the category of “3D Printed Presurgery Anatomical Models” as “Hype Cycle for 3D Printing” and “Hype Cycle for Healthcare Providers” by Gartner, an IT research firm from USA.


As shown in the Table 1 and Table 2, MedicalIP was referred in the category of “3D Printed Presurgery Anatomical Models”, which is a technology that apply 3D printing for various pre-surgical situation based on patient’s anatomy from CT and MRI data. In both tables, “3D Printed Presurgery Anatomical Models” was grouped in the “Through of Disillusionment” stage, which expected to reach the plateau earning in the 5 to 10 years.


All of the companies listed as reference companies in this field (i.e 3D Printed Presurgery Anatomical Models) by Gartner so far are the leading companies in the global market (Materialise, Stratasys, Formlabs, etc.), but Medical IP is the first company in Asia to be listed along with them. In particular, the 3D printing market is dominated by these global companies, and the annual growth rate (CAGR) is more than 20%. This report means that the international market recognized Medical IP as vendor and has role in the market share, even this company just founded for four years.


Medical IP was established as a startup company in Seoul National University Hospital, 2015 by Professor Park Sang-joon (Director of Medical Device Innovation Center). In the meantime, by collaborating with major hospitals, mainly in Seoul National University Hospital, Medical IP developed a high quality medical 3D printing technology and applied it to various fields in 3D medical imaging in 2016. The company plans to quickly enter the market by offering one-stop solutions for medical imaging in the future and establishing a big data platform. This kind of movement of medical IP is already taking place and is expected to increase its market shares in next year.
